We will soon see the return of Margot Robbie in her role as Harley Quinn. The actress will return in the new “The Suicide Squad” movie directed by James Gunn. This will be a sequel / reboot of the 2016 movie where we first saw the character of Harley in its live action version.
However, while Margot Robbie has received nothing but praise for portraying her, The Suicide Squad might be the last time we’ll see her character. This is because the actress has decided that she wants to take time away from Harley Quinn. How long will it take and what will be the exact reasons?
Recall that with The Suicide Squad, it would mark the third time that Margot Robbie plays Harley Quinn. She was the first time she was in the Suicide Squad of 2016, to later interpret her in the movie, Birds of Prey, in 2020 and the new James Gunn film that will arrive this year.
According to Margot Robbie, in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the fact that Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad were filmed almost simultaneously is one of the factors why she wants to take a break from Harley Quinn: ‘It was almost at the same time. filming Birds and filming this, so I said, oof, I need to take a break from Harley because it’s exhausting. I don’t know when we’ll see her again. I’m just as intrigued as everyone else. ‘
The Future of the DC Cinematic Universe
In fact, outside of The Suicide Squad, the DC movies Warner has planned don’t seem to have a place for Harley Quinn or Margot Robbie. They are currently working on sequels for Shazam and Aquaman, as well as solo films for Ezra Miller’s Flash and Black Adam with Dwayne Johnson. Perhaps some might think that the character could appear in The Batman with Robert Pattinson, but it is doubtful since this new Batman story will take place in his own universe disconnected from the DCEU of the moment.
Playing the same character for so long can be exhausting. Plus Margot Robbie could miss out on other roles because she’s giving Harley Quinn so much time. Although we may not see her for a few years, her reception of her performance could indicate that it will not be the last time we will see the alter ego of Dr. Harleen Quinzel. Do you think it’s okay for her to take a break from her or do you want to see her in other DC projects?
